i just received an email from gm indicating that the 2011 hd silverado will offer the new and improved duramax allison combination. looks like the max tow rating will go up to 20,000 lbs properly equiped. they say the engine will have more power and better fuel economy and a bunch of other goodies as well. hope they are right.   bob r

The email I received from Chevy stated the new 2011 Silverado HD will be introduced today at the Chicago Auto Show.  Should be greatly improved with increased towing ability and more power.

GM has pretty much spilled all the beans on the '11 Silverado HD except torque & HP numbers. Now you don't suppose they're waiting for Ford to show their hand on the 2011 Super Duty, Hmmmmmm..................... Huh

I wouldn't be surprised.  In another thread on the Ford side a long conversation went on about tuners, chips, etc, and a comment was made to the extent, that if it was that easy to raise HP and TQ the factories would do it.  Well, it is that easy and the factories do it all the time.  If Chevy is waiting for Ford to release figures, Chevy will tweak the ECU and suddenly GM will have 5 more HPs and 10 more TQ.  It is all a game I guess  smiley

You are so right Don. Wish others were able to accept these facts without trying to demean the rest of us.

GM will wait for Ford's numbers before announcing theirs I'm sure. It's all a marketing game.

That's my thought. The engineers know the limits of their design and there's probably "reserve"built in. Higher HP & TQ are just a software reflash away.

A neighbor (fleet manager for a local Chevy dealer) from when we lived in NM told me once that GM always had at least another 25 Hp and 100 ft lbs of TQ to dial in without modding the engine at all.  Granted this was back when the Duramax first came out.  And, these were just loose figures, but the point he made is evident as they all scramble to be Top Dog with the figures.

I checked out the new 2011 Duramax on Chevy's website, http://www.chevrolet.com/pages/open/default/future/silveradohd.do and the new truck will have an integrated exhaust brake. This new truck sounds great! Although I love my 2008 GMC which I thought would be my last truck, I may have to check out the new one.  azn

My son told me about a great report on Pickuptrucks.com that shows the changes made for 2011 on the Chevy chassis. There are actual photos taken at the Chicago Auto Show comparing present model to the new model. Check it out at http://special-reports.pickuptrucks.com/2010/02/2011-chevrolet-silverado-heavy-duty-first-look-part-1.html

I wonder where you can get tires like the ones they cut away.  Wouldn't ever have to worry about tire pressure!

Nice looking truck and interesting link.  Thanks for posting.

Yes, wouldn't it be nice to have tires like that! I am excited that they have upped the dully tire size to LT235/80R17 from today's LT225/75R17. Evidently a lot of owners have commented on the small tire size on teh current duallys.

Looks like gm is trying to compete with the ford MDT trucks 20,000 LBS 5th wheel weight with a GCWR 27,000 LBS  looks great will be ready to see the new ones.

the one thing i am concerned about is the rail height. if they left the bed height the same and made the tire taller the problem will be even worse.  bob r

In my part of Arizona (Surprise) I have not seen any 2010, 3500, Dully, Diesel, Chevy's yet.  I was thinking perhaps they will just come out with a 2011.

How would you know a 2010 from a 2009 from a 2008?  Huh

kkro,

I don't know the differences between the three model year trucks.  I have been to three Chevy Dealers in town and I am being told they have not had any 2010 Chevy 1 ton Trucks.  A Chevy Dealer would know the difference between these trucks and this is the places I have been looking.

From what I read, the 20K towing weight is on a standard cab model. I think the quad cab numbers are lower, but it seems like a real nice truck and supposed to be 11% more fuel efficient than last yrs. model.

I was looking at the information that said, DURAMAX 6.6L DIESEL V8, 3500HD, DRW, Crew Cab, 4x4, Long Bed, 3.73 Axle Ratio, had a Gross Combination Weight Rating of 23,500 Lbs.  This information was from a 2010 on line Chevy booklet.  I am not a Truck expert, so I will leave it at that.
