We started traveling & became full-timers 10/29/09

We have not used the water in our water tank for over a year, we have been on street water, we will be traveling to Alaska this summer and know that we will probably do some dry camping along the way, we need to find out how to condition the tank, we assume the water is probably nasty tasting so we would like to ?sweeten? it.

Has the tank been filled the whole time?

Mike,

See the attached file below to get some info on how to sanitize your fresh water tank.  I scanned it from my HitchHiker Manual.   Wink

Reggi and Mike,

Not an expert on this subject but ... each year I fill my fresh water tank with about 20 gallons of fresh water and 2 ounces of bleach then ride around for a couple of hundred miles. It sloshes around the tank. I then fill and dump the tank several times with just fresh water. Seems to work for me.

Also, there are at least two Hitchhiker groups and a single couple going to Alaska this summer crossing the Canadian border within 3 weeks of each other. Our group (the last group) crosses June 1st.  What are your plans ??

That's a very good guide to follow, just a suggestion it might be a good idea to also scan the Draining the Fresh Water System page and include it here also.
I would do it if I was smarter.  embarrassed

Gary, thanks for the scanned page, very helpful.  Dan, we are not sure when we will cross or where we will cross, we are anticipating around the same time, but have not planned the route, where are your crossing?

One thing we have learned is to don't run on city water 100% of the time.  I make sure we use the water in our tank weekly.  30 gallons is easy to use in one day, then I refill and go back on city water..

HerbN,

A call to the NuWa Factory on Monday may help find the answer for you.  Until then... you might try looking under the trailer folding steps.   Wink  Welcome to the Forum!   azn   cheesy

Or under the trailer near the rear wheel.  If you see a pet cock, chances are that it is the drain for the fresh water tank.  You are going to have to get down on hands and knees to find it.

Thank you Jeff  for your prompt reply and for the information on the water valve. My neighbor will be pleased as well as he is preparing for a long trip soon. I'm really impressed with the quality of workmanship in The H H 11 model he has. I've seen them around for years ,but, never had the opportunity to work on one till now. It will sure be on my list when I upgrade this spring. Herb.

Our drain valve is about 6 inches from the base of the water tank, just next to the pump, it is a black handle that you pull up....

Our 94 31 ft. SnowBird had the water tank in the basement, and the drain valve was there also.  Just to the door side of the tank.
