Black Beauty and the Beast

« on: March 02, 2010, 09:19:08 AM »

While reading various posts (trying to catch up), I saw someone mention having TIVO in their HH, and I would like to ask of those who have taken their TIVO from home and into their 5th wheel how that works as to connections?

My youngest son had told us at one time that he didn't think we would be able to; can't remember if he said it was because we wouldn't have cable TV any longer or if it had something to do with no longer having cable internet (Roadrunner) while on the road.

Can anyone dispute him on that and tell me how it works...as I love recording more than one show at a time on my TIVO and fast forwarding past the commercials. Roll Eyes

Thanks for your help.

We don't use "Tivo" so can't answer anything about it, we use an all-in-one Directv HD DVR receiver. It works fine and I can program it to record from anywhere via my directv iPhone app.

The receiver-> https://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/content/equipment/hd_dvr_receiver

We have a TIVO unit that works with cable and/or antenna.  Lots of places we park have cable.  If you have a digital TV most areas have lots of over the air channels.  You must have the TIVO connected to a phone landline or the internet so it can get the program guide.  We have a Verizon air card and Cradlepoint router.  The router has an ethernet port for the TIVO.

TIVO also makes receivers that work with satellite, but they don't have any that work with both satellite and cable. I think they used to make one that worked with both.

The only time there is a problem is when the park has a non-standard channel lineup.  TIVO will create a custom lineup for the park, if it does not already exist.  The first time we requested it, they had the new lineup in about a week.  We are now in another park with a nonstandard lineup and have been trying to get the right lineup for over a month.

You need to repeat the guided setup each time you move.
