We're looking at the new Chevy/GMC 2500 and 3500 trucks. Sit down when you talk about the prices. SRW 3500 Diesel LTZ about $70K includes $10K dealer mark up cry. The one dealer we talked to said about the price: "take it or leave it, no haggling).  evil

So we're looking at the 2010 models that are left around the country. The 2500 has a payload of 3872# and a trailer GVWR of 15800# with a GVWR of 9200#. This rating is about the same as our 2008 F350  except for the (11400#) GVWR.

Any thoughts and comments would be appreciated.

I don't know who you got the quote from but IMHO Dave Smith Motors in Kellogg Idaho is the best Dodge dealer in the country. They are also a GM dealer.

There is no way I would consider a 1 ton SRW truck, in any brand. It is a 3/4 ton with only  slightly more payload. Go for the dually!  I would also look for an '07 or '08 GM. Much cheaper and much better mileage, performance and reliability. '09s and up are bad on fuel. I will keep my '08 forever!!

We got our 2008 GMC 3500 dually in 5/2008.  Thank goodness for Fujifilm (my employer) as they have a GM fleet and so extended the fleet discount to us lowly employees.  Couldn't have swung it with just the trade in of the 2000 Toyota Tundra.
And I've heard people who get great mileage with their 2008 - but we sure don't.  Course, it might have something to do with the fact that DH drives it like the Mazda RX7 sports car we used to own. smiley

You need t0 re-think your poll.  The opening line says ". . . if you tow with a Chevy/GMC 2500 . . ." and then you include choices for dual rear wheels (DRW).  There ain't no such animal unless it's home-grown.

A SWR will work on the LS series HH and some of the smaller DA series but if you are looking at the Champagne series you would need a dually one ton. MHO

I'll second the recommendation to check with Dave Smith Motors. Be safe, be sure, go with DRW.

When we first got the 32.5 HH we towed with a 2500 GMC and although it got there and back I was never as comfortable, safety wise,  as I wanted to be. After changing to a dually I would no longer consider a SRW with a 5er the size of ours or bigger. JMHO.

We pulled our HH 32.5 UKTG over Monarch Pass today. It pulled like a dream and the tow/haul mode held us down to 45 without any use of brakes. I don't know how it could be better. We have a Single Rear wheel, 2500 HD Duramax diesel with Allison transmission. I feel perfectly safe and comfortable. Just my experience and my opinion.

Thanks for this info. (I'm laughing). We, my cousin (his truck)  and I, pulled a 29ft. TT for a retiring friend over Monarch Pass (breathtaking after creast)  in 1991 with Fords first small truck diesel I think it was a 1986 model. I remember the last 5-600 ft up are pretty steep. Truck was floor-boarded and we were barely moving. That was before turbo's on them. I remember that  I told him I was going to just get out and "walk"  Black smoke was so thick our buddies behind us had to drop way back  down mountain so they could see . It was really "funny" to us but not to  our buddies.  Honestly, we could not see their truck for the smoke.
I have been thinking about going back. We have the 32.5 UKTG also. Glad to know I should be able to make it, both up and down.

That's a good story, Ken, but I expect it is much funnier now than it was that day Roll Eyes

The day I posted, we had just come over Monarch from Salida, going to Gunnison. It was the downhill that was so impressive to me.

A couple of years ago with the same rig we pulled over Wolf Creek Pass (this time from Pagosa Springs toward South Fork. Equally competent experience with the rig.
