What strike?  In Yuma I can buy diesel for $1.99.
...Jeff...
Looking like these will start posting again pretty quick if the strike happens and the prices start flying up.... up.... and away........ sigh....of course they will go up, we have to start heading north to Gig Harbor, Wa for the first of March!!!   angry  So blame us when the prices begin to rise, not the strike!  LOL!  In Tucson, the diesel jumped up overnite on the strike news, as far up as 2.31 per gallon.

The threatened strike by the oil refinery workers because they didn't like the offers on their contract.  Don't have details so can't judge, but, with the rest of the country losing jobs left and right, I have a hard time swallowing the strike threat gracefully, since there are so many who would scramble up to have their jobs right now.  Don't watch the news daily, so will have to pick up a newspaper and see if they are still going to strike or if they settled.   Regardless, the prices will go up in the next few weeks anyway just because we are leaving Tucson and heading North the end of the next week. :)

$2.11 at Mr. T's in Tucson, AZ  on 2/4.   $2.16 if you are lazy and want the full service! :)

i often hear of the speculators in the futures market driving up the price of oil artificially and rather than trying to convince anyone otherwise i will simply point out that there is 2 sides to every trade. that means that there is a winner and a loser in every trade so it becomes somewhat difficult to manipulate those trades as the losers will be slightly irritated i think. the same sor of trading takes place in orange juice, bacon, beef, coal, natural gas, corn, wheat, cotton, and many other commodities so whatever manipulations work in oil should work equally as well in those other commodities. here is something to consider that has real meaning though. according to baker hughes in last fridays drilling report (number of rigs currently drilling) the north american rig count is down by 452 from last year. the count is also down for the world and that means less new oil and gas will be coming to market while the deline curve continues to work on existing wells. the world wide cost to produce oil is currently about $70 per barrel of new production. since oil is selling around $40 per barrel new production comes on line at a loss of $30 per barrel. no matter how much you produce at that cost you lose money, you cannot make it up with volume. adding a risk premium and profit to the lifting cost gets oil back up over $100 in my opinion. that is not speculation, manipulation, or anything but pure business. the current environment in the oil and gas market will see more and more rigs laid down and production curtailed as non profitable until once again we find ourselves in a shortage position and the cycle repeats itself again. this has been going on for decades with no end in sight.   bob r

How many of us actually know that what you say is correct, but may not think it all through until it's laid out for us once again? : Huh Quite a few, I suspect. It's just so much easier to do what the politicians and the media do: find a scapegoat (or a straw man) to blame the problems on.  azn

Who'd a thunk it!!!!! Today, at my neighborhood "Stop & Rob": Unleaded 87 Octane: 2.22/gal. Diesel: 2.21/gal. The prevailing "reason" is refiners are switching over to more expensive "summer blend gasoline". Didn't know this part of Fl. was mandated to sell "summer blend" by the EPA. Hell, we've got "Charlie Gas" (E10 blend mandated by our beloved Governor) now anyway. Kills your mileage, screws up small engine equipment, and is now reported by many area mechanics to be damaging fuel systems in older cars and causing mechanical problems in newer ones!  evil At least now the price of a gallon of diesel isn't equal to the gross national product of Botswana. angry

In Southeast Florida we are averaging $2.39 per gallon. Regular gas has gone up around .15 per gallon the past two weeks.

Greg: When I started the "bull" rolling on this thread again, I wasn't so much marveling at the price of fuel as I was the fact that diesel hasn't been less than gasoline in this neck of the woods for about 2 years, maybe longer. For some reason, diesel tends to remain higher here than other southern states, except in the Panhandle, but I'll still take it. $70 bucks to fill the Ram vs. $135.00 last May when I bought it.............. smiley

Big Yahoo! (Maybe we should just be real quiet lipsrsealed lipsrsealed :lipsrsealed:Yes Diesel is starting to become like it should be and used to be, at par or below regular.  Can you remember when regular was about 20 cents per gallon and diesel was about something like 13 cents?

Yes I can.  I also remember vowing never to return to the truckstop where I first paid $1.00 a gallon for diesel fuel - it was the Union 76 Truckstop just east of St. Louis, MO.  Can't remember the date though.

Well in those days I used to smoke and I can also remember that a pack of cigs was about the same price as a gallon of gas which hovered around 25 cents each for some time.  I also remember making a bet with my wife that on such and such a date gas would never be over a buck (I mean how could that happen!).  Only way I won the bet was by searching and finding a station selling $.999 per gallon cry

$2.05 in Cheyenne this week, same price as regular.  It is about time diesel came down to the cost of regular gas.

We just returned from a 2 week stay at St. Andrew's State Park near Panama City, FL. Last night I entered my usual trip mileage log:

I compared this with a similar log from a year ago:

The total cost from the two charts got my attention: $269 compared with $623. Let's hope these prices remain reasonable.

The total cost for the 2009 trip does not include the final fill-up. That was just done this morning. Add $52.64 to the 2009 total: 24.160 gallons at $2.169.

Still about half of what the cost was in 2008.

Bp station on the way home tonight was $2.329 for reg gas and $2.069 for diesel.
I remember $.18 gal diesel in 1971 and $1.00 at a union 76 in San Jose in 197?
