I took a new Dodge 3500 dually for a test drive Saturday and it had a brake controller mounted just in front of my right knee. I noticed it immediately when I hit it getting in. With the cup holders in the middle, where do you recommend mounting? What brand/model works well on the Dodge?
Thanks,
Gary

With a Prodigy P3 (trailer has electro-hydraulic brakes), I didn't use the included brackets and removed the top plastic plate (making the top of the P3 flatter).  Using Velcro for vinyl automotive (found it at Home Depot), I attached it fairly high on the right side of the steering column (above my right knee) as the wiring permitted.  I had tried using "industrial strength" Velco, but the P3 would fall off when the interior got hot, so I found the automotive velcro for vinyl held much better.  I couldn't find any other spot that would work...

I mounted mine on the "knee trim" to the right and below the steering wheel.  Here are a couple of photos.

The first is the Prodigy controller and the second shows it and the CB / Dual Band Ham radio setup.  Works for me...  Wink

I have a 2008, 3500 and I mounted my Prodigy on the bottom edge of the instrument panel right under the steering column.  Can't see it to good while driving, but it was the only place I could put it so my knees wouldn't hit it.  The Prodigy will work just fine with disc brakes on the trailer, in case you are leaning that way, as long as they are from Dexter, and purchased after 2005.  I checked with Dexter and they told me they tested twenty different brake controllers, including the Prodigy, and all of them performed perfectly.  The Prodigy has worked well for me, I've used it on three Dodge trucks and four trailers.  My new DA 339 RSB has disc brakes, the other three trailers had the standard electric brakes.

I read somewhere (can't remember where) that the Prodigy should be mounted as close to level as possible (front to back). If yours are working properly then I assume the info I read is false.

PRODIGY? is the most advanced and intelligent approach to trailer brake controls. PRODIGY?, requiring no manual leveling, is a technological breakthrough among inertia-activated brake controls. Equipped with a self-adjusting sensing device similar to the one used in guided-missile technology to allow for easy, flexible installation ? from nearly horizontal to nearly vertical ? PRODIGY? constantly adjusts itself to the position of the tow vehicle.

Wow . . . guess the article I read was really off track. As your signature says: "A smart man only believes half of what he hears, a wise man knows which half."

Thanks for the info

I have a 2008 new 2500 Dodge and I went the route of everyone else looks like. The Prodigy P3. Its just so much nicer than all the rest I saw and they dont cost that much anyway. As far as mountiing it. I put it on the left side right next to the park brake release. Just enough so it doesnt get in the way of releasing the park brake. I dont hit it but it is hard to read down there. However one you set it you shouldnt have to set it again.  grin

I've got a prodigy controller mounted almost exactly the same as Rick except I used the other type of bracket. My neighbors '08 looks the same also.
This location works perfect for me but Miss Hut says it hits her knee and is in the way for her to hit the go pedal comfortably.
Guess the difference is I am taller and have the seat all the way back and she has the seat much further forward.
My intended fix is to cut a piece out of the back of the lower center console and mount the prodigy there. In my picture I intend to have the prodigy through that square window just above where the ipod is sitting. Hopefully I can make it fit nicely.  Cool

I put my Prodigy right above the cup holders. There is a back flap that comes up when the cup holder is down. Took out that back flap and hung it right at the top.

My legs are short so I sit close to the dash.  I looked at mounting my Jordan controller on the kick panel but I found my leg would hit the controller. I looked around and came up with the idea of mounting the controller through the front of the ash tray.  Works great there.   smiley

That would be great, except most of us would rather be driving our trucks than visiting it at the shop with the cab pulled off.  grin

So is the Prodigy the most popular brake controller?  I have the DrawTite version in our Pilot and it worked great controlling the mother-of-all pop up campers.

I think it's a matter of latest greatest thing going. None of them are overly expensive so I'd say the newest Tekonsha P3 version is probably selling more nowadays.

I don't know if they will or not but it's not much of an issue IMO. I'd like to have an in dash unit but an after market controller is a simple add on.  Wink

I like this location as well.

Took some explaining over the phone to convince the guys installing it that I really wanted it there.

The other locations available were either in the way of my Knees or too far to reach.

Sparky .....

I also mounted a Jordan brake controller into my Ford dash. Later I up-graded to a Brake Smart controller and I left the Jordan "in-place" as a back-up and also so I would not have an empty hole in my dash. When I mounted the Jordan I hid the rough edges of the hole by stretching a square cut O-ring around the controller, like a rubber band, and pushed it snugly against the dash.
