We bought our trailer in mid 2008 and started full timing in Oct 2008. We love our 5th wheel but for the last couple of months we have been experiencing some problems with our Norcold 1210 Double Door refrigerator. It seems to run well and then for some reason it warms up. we tracked the temperatures in both the fridge unit and the freezer and reported them to the dealer and the manufacturer. dealer recommended to take it to a specialist and we did 3 times and he has reviiewed everything and cannot explain the problem. There is a switch that controls the upper fans at the back and we thought that might be the problem but he took that out and examined it closely and it is working. the firdge has been running since our last visit to the specialist and we are keeping our fingers crossed that the problem has disappeared. we are just curious if any other owners have experienced this and if their proble was corrected.

Welcome to the forum Bill and Kathy. Glad to have you aboard.
Good luck with your refer. and I am sure you will get some response from others who have the same unit.

What kind of temperatures are you seeing (1) in the fridge, (2) in the freezer, and (3) outside air temperatures?
What setting do you have the fridge on?
Running on gas or electric?
The switch that controls the fans may not be bad, but both of my fans on my 12xx locked up and quit running.
You may want to go read my post on
Norcold Maintenance Mode
that will let you monitor exactly what temperature your cooling fins are getting to. I keep mine in this mode and right now, I'm showing 25 degrees on the fins, but the thermometer in the bottom of the unit shows 42 degrees. Outside temps are in the high 80's. When my fans quit, my cooling fins would only get down to about 54 degrees on a 90 degree day.

I don't have any problems with ours. Ours is the 1210M and it has four doors. I was in the back today and there were no fans there that I could see. What I was doing was adding a solar powered fan. Do we have the same fridge..... it has 4 doors? Mine runs perfect with a setting of 3.

Jeff, if it's in a slide-out, it's got fans. Two of them about half-way up the rear ventilation stack. You can't see them from the bottom panel because of all the coils. and you can't see them from the top panel because there are supposed to be baffles installed. They are 120 mm computer type fans. The temperature sensitive switch is located near the fans. Both require the fridge to be pulled out of the wall from inside the trailer to change out.

For this model, it is not in a slide.

I have a single door but did have a similar problem. I found out the the switch that turn out the light was sticking. Got it working again and the refer was fine. So I recommend that you check that switch, it may be your culprit.

I might now add that I recently installed a solar power fan in the back of my fridge. We haven't been in temps over 75 degrees in a while and have noticed no difference. If there were any difference it would probably occur in 100 degree weather with the sun on the outside fridge side.

Where did you mount the solar panel, Jeff? Seems like a great idea to have the fan kick on every day during daylight, when it's the hottest.

You thread the wire down the fridge vent. I mounted it to the vent cover on the fridge. They give you screws to do this with, but I used my favorite ........ Velcro.

Bringing an old thread back to life in hopes somebody can help me. This is the closest to what my problem is so instead of starting a new thread I'll just open this one back up.
Tried all the stuff that Greg's link gave me and I still cannot got my Norcold 1210 to get cold. Neither AC or gas mode will work. It is just stuck a 26 degrees in the freezer and 60 degrees in the main box. Sink me it is colder than 60 outside!!!!
Checked all the seals, fuses, trouble codes, unplugged the thermistor to make it go into fail mode and it still won't cool. Checked all air flow components, vents and fans and still no cold.
Can hear the gas burner burning when in gas mode, got electric in the electric mode......................just stumped and tired.
Any hints?
??
Got a good Norcold guy in the Tucson area? I am in Dragoon and it is a 100 dollar bill for the closest service guy to "come take a peek at it".

try removing the bulb from the light. sometimes the switch goes bad and the light stays on. if you take the bulb out and the problem goes away you will know what to do. bob r

Pulled the light wires when I had the thermistor out. Thanks for the post but it did not help to pull the wires.

glenn, have you checked the seal real well. best way is to put a sheet of notebook paper in the door and shut the door and see if the paper is difficult to pull out. have to go all the way around the door to get a good check. if the seal is good and the light is not on i am lost as to what might be wrong. other than a bad reefer those are the only problems i have had in the past 25 years or so. bob r

That model fridge is a 4 door. Seals couldn't be bad on all four doors, and the light is only in the fridge, so that could not affect the freezer. I think you need to have a Norcold expert look at it. The fridge has built in diagnostics, and the expert can find the problem pretty quick. I had a problem with mine lighting. I was at the Rally in Albuqueque and I got the factory Norcold expert to my rig. First thing he did was check the diagnostics. Then he adjusted the the gap where it lights, and the problem was solved. Your problem looks to be more complicated. I assume you have the cold setting on 10, not 1.

I have moved this to the refrigerator thread.
I do have the DA and it does have the 1210 four door two above two configuration.
I did the seal check first thing as that had been a problem when the new doors got put on two or so months ago.
Went throught all the diagnostice availble to me as per the tech manual, been all over the board with a multi meter and everything seems to be good.
Now running it on AC with the fan switch (up on the top coils) bypassed and it seems to be getting a bit colder, but I am not sure that is the cure.
Going to Tucson in a bit and will check with the Norcold people there to see if I can get it in soon. Just a bummer having to break camp and haul it in.

Yeah, four doors, no waiting. I think that was a car commercial a few years back.
Looks like it will be several days (two weeks or better) before I will have a cure.
Anybody got a cold beer?
??

Is it the Desert Martini bar downtown? They have the greatest beer in schooners with optional olives. I was the shuffle board champion there, the few times I visited this establishment. Notice I said the few times? MIKE
