This is an easy modification. Remove the seat. Add corner blocks for added strength... you will be glad you did this. Hinge the seat with a piano hinge (cut the hinge to length with a hack saw), put a thin plywood bottom on (use leftovers from your shop, 1/8" will work, I used an undersized 1/4" (like 3/16"). I will pre-drill your screw holes to avoid splitting wood. You will have to notch the front leg so that the seat can open fully. After you chisel the notch, oil the wood so color will be the same.

Shows the piano hinge and the corner blocks. Chairs come loose easily. The corner blocks add a lot of strength and should always have them. Cut the piano hinge to length.
